Baird, Hampton & Brown provided land surveying and civil, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering design services for the construction of Chroma Modern Eyewear’s new location in Fort Worth. Located near Dickies Arena, Will Rogers Coliseum, and the Museum District, the new 6,130 square-foot building at 1604 Montgomery Street was designed by Ibanez Shaw Architecture and has spaces for retail, reception, labs, offices, consult rooms, restrooms, and a break room.

The retail sales area of the building is cantilevered above grade, as well as the walkway to the entrance. On the interior, the sales area features RGB color-changing light fixtures mounted to the ceiling, a display wall with built-in light boxes, and SORAA light bulbs to provide a light spectrum perfectly matched to daylight. The electrical design also encompassed lighting for exterior signage, linear LEDs inside archways to light the sidewalk, emergency lighting, and electrical distribution.

The mechanical system design entailed two package rooftop units of 12.5 and 8.5 tons, each with two-stage cooling and heating. Inside ductwork is exposed to create a modern, industrial atmosphere. Sinks are equipped with infra-red faucets for hands-free operation, and a hot water recirculation loop is used to provide hot water quickly to all fixtures.
