Konstantine Bakintas, PE, is a major influence at Baird, Hampton & Brown. Not only is he a senior civil engineer, but he is also President and is instrumental in defining and guiding the firm’s strategy and structure. Having been an outstanding asset to the company for over 26 years, his successes and determination began much earlier. In fact, engineering wasn’t always in the cards for Konstantine, and if it weren’t for his drive to succeed, his future might have been very different.
In 1970, Konstantine, an elementary school student, was excited to move from his home of Greece to Texas – “where there are cowboys and NASA astronauts!” Knowing no English and having to adapt to a new lifestyle, he managed to remain at the top of his class in math, but did not do so well in other subjects. A year later he was completely fluent, and quickly became a straight-A student.
By the time he reached high school, Konstantine was taking advanced placement courses and testing for college credit. Unsure if he would be able to afford college, he was encouraged upon receiving a scholarship, and attended the University of Utah. His interest was in architecture, but quickly transitioned to civil engineering – a field that was better aligned with his passion for serving and improving entire communities.
After graduating, he returned home to Texas and accepted an Engineer in Training (EIT) position with civil engineer Bill Baird. They worked together at an engineering firm until 1992 when Bill left to start his own company with Merlin Hampton and Les Brown. One year later, Bill brought Konstantine onboard to Baird, Hampton & Brown and, as they say, the rest is history.
Flash forward nearly three decades later, Konstantine leads BHB’s Grapevine location where he has garnered extensive experience in design and project management of public works and commercial development projects – all while serving as the firm’s President.
Involved with hundreds of BHB projects over the years, Konstantine’s work has benefited the DFW Metroplex and surrounding areas, while fulfilling his dream of improving community landscapes by building innovative infrastructure and site improvements that will serve the public for decades. His reputation as an engineer speaks for itself, having garnered many awards and accolades, including TSPE’s President’s Award and the prestigious Distinguished Engineer Award.
In the free time he has outside of the office, Konstantine enjoys sailing, riding motorcycles, and playing on his tractor. With no kids (or pets at the moment) he and his wife Stephanie enjoy an unrestricted lifestyle with “nothing to worry about but the pool” at home. Together, they enjoy watching movies and traveling locally and abroad.
At BHB, Konstantine has served as a mentor for many, and we are thankful for his guidance and service.
